Your Time is Gonna Come
Feeling a little agitated today. I know what's got my goat. Trying to get past it, talk myself through. Doesn't always work. Sometimes only musical immersion therapy helps. So I've cranked Zeppelin.
I still remember the first time Kevin played the Houses of the Holy album for me. An actual album, vinyl. It was the late 80s. I was listening to Madonna, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, the Bangles, Fine Young Cannibals, Roxette ... and I was on a country kick because it made me feel a little closer to home to listen to Shenandoah, Clint Black, Rodney Crowell, The Judds, Ricky Scaggs, Kathy Mattea, Holly Dunn, the Desert Rose Band and of course, my mom's favourite, Alabama. I was in no musical frame of mind for Houses of the Holy. Perhaps if I had toked, but that was never my thing.
I remember sitting on the floor as the needle grooved along the record. "I don't like this," I proclaimed shortly. He was astonished, how could anyone not like Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy?! "It scares me," I continued. "It's too dark. I can't listen." He pretty much dismissed my musical tastes as being nothing more than "bubble gum" from that moment on -- we could share a love of Billy Joel, but I'd never "get" The Tragically Hip. I meant that Zeppelin was too emotionally overwhelming for me on that particular day and time, not that it was bad. I just didn't want to be melancholy, to think too deep, to be too happy, to feel too much ... because if I felt too much I would cry, and I most definitely did not want to cry in front of this man who was so perfect and godlike in my eyes.
I never bothered to correct his incorrect perception of me. I let it drop, let him think I didn't like Zeppelin. So I suppose I probably shouldn't have been surprised many years later when he didn't get my irony as I teased that Alanis Morissette's lyrics were nothing but "bubble gum." We had been separated and hadn't seen each other for a few years, but I guess I thought he knew me better. So what was supposed to be a playful personal joke hearkening back to the early days of our love, turned into a "I can't effing believe you and your high horse" lecture from a man I didn't recognize. Again, I didn't correct him. My silence confirmed his perception.
This is something I do. My sense of humour type is ironic/sarcastic. I deliver a line that is directly opposed to my personal belief, which I believe is completely obvious to anyone who knows me, and most times I think is so generally absurd as to be completely obvious to anyone who isn't some sort of religious or right-wing extremist freak.
I do it without thinking, it's an automatic reaction ... but I'll deliver this completely absurd line without flinching, without cracking a smile, as if I honestly believed what I was saying (hence the irony of the joke). And I would stop doing this all together if I could, but out of everything I do this is the thing that is the most natural and unconscious, like breathing, like sneezing ... I don't seem to be able to do anything to stop it because it happens so quick ... I have no freaking idea where it comes from.
And more often than not, although it's probably really only 25% of the time, people take me at face value, like Kevin did with Alanis. And I don't correct them. I just let them think whatever I've just said, which is the direct opposite of what I really think, is what I think. I let people's perceptions of me get skewed. And I'm not just talking strangers, colleagues, general acquaintances, I mean my best friends, my parents, my sisters, the people who are closest to me. When it happens I say nothing, and people take my silence as reinforcement.
Why do I do this? I mean with strangers and general acquaintances, it doesn't really matter one way or the other, and I really shouldn't be expecting them to understand my sense of humour anyway because they don't know me from a hole in the ground, so I get what I deserve if they think I'm arrogant or twisted. But close friends? Family? How come I never speak up and say, "I was kidding." Maybe I do sometimes, but generally, I don't. I just don't. I sit there like a ninny and generally take whatever tongue lashing they're dishing out or listen to their argument for the "other" side ... which is really the side I'm all ready on ... oi! It's complicated, I know.
As I sat quietly listening to Kevin tell me what an unimaginative uncreative non-artistic soul I must be if I couldn't see the poetry in the lyrics of Alanis, I felt like I had been slapped in the face. At one time this was the person I was closest to in the world, and yet here was proof he didn't really know me very well at all. Obviously, he didn't remember how he used to tease me about my "bubble gum" music. He didn't get that Alanis was such an amazing talent that for anyone to say otherwise was absurd and therefore, "Isn't it ironic?" By the time I came around to the point where I could speak without crying because I was so upset, it seemed too late to say, "I was kidding you freaking moron."
It hurt me on a very deep level and I never thought of him in quite the same way again. To be honest, I never really enjoyed Alanis much after that either. I always associate her with the hurt of this memory.
It's funny how such simple little things can have such an impact on our lives. I have an ironic sense of humour. A lot of people don't. A lot of people don't get the irony in my humour, or they only get it some of the time. A lot of the time it doesn't matter if people get me or not, but sometimes it does, when it's my family and close friends. Maybe I can't control the jokes, maybe they'll just spill out unannounced and unpredicted like always, but I should at least be able to speak up and say I was kidding. If I could get past the shock and hurt and "I'm all alone in the world" feelings just a tad bit quicker, I wouldn't be five minutes into a heated argument and saying, "I was kidding," would be a helluva lot easier to do. I can work on that. Maybe all it takes is setting the record straight one time and not letting people walk away with a completely ass-backward skewed view of me.

Years ago I was out at a party with a friend and I did it, I made an ironic joke. After an awkward silence, I was just about to fess up (because it's easier to say you're kidding if the other people are not close friends and they are silently standing there passing their judgment rather than trying to bring you around to the right way of thinking) when my friend laughed, "She's just kidding." My silence confirmed his theory, as I turned and looked into his eyes with amazement. "Wow! I think he sees me, he really sees me!"
Somewhere in the world there is a man who thinks he has known me as well as I know myself. We shared our most intimate secrets and loved each other deeply for many years. He has no doubt that I hate Led Zeppelin, The Tragically Hip and of course, Alanis Morissette. Somewhere else there is a man who knows very few of my secrets and has no idea he knew me like nobody else.

Good Rockin'
It was tough growing up in rural NB with only two tv channels and no FM radio. Everything I knew about music I learned from Stan the Man on Switchback CBC Sunday morning, the New Music magazine with JD Roberts and Jeanne Beker, Good Rockin' Tonight with Terry David Mulligan and then Stu Jeffries and WNBC out of New York that would come in on the radio in my dad's car late at night when the air was clear. Big old Ford LTD, black, tan/taupe interior, possibly a 1974 or '76, two door. I'd sit out there discretely smoking until I knew my parents had gone to bed and wouldn't catch me, twisting the dial until I heard the call sign -- wNbc! That's how I saw it in my head, all lower case except the N, they always put the emphasis on the N. I'd hope the signal would last until Imus came on in the morning. I loved the promos for his show. But as the night wore into morning the static would pick up until finally the station blinked out like it never existed. God, those were simpler times! I was reminded of this when a friend told me about this 80's Music Festival happening in Saint John.

Resolve
What is the universe trying to tell me this morning? First, How to Save a Life from The Fray, followed immediately by Snow Patrol's How to be Dead, and now I've got some Resolve going on.
Had a helluva time getting any sleep last night. Felt so sleepy by 10pm that I went into bed. Read until 12:15. Then turned out the lights and went immediately into horror genre type dreams, though not nightmarish in any way. There was a murderer in a mask, but I was more curious about who the villain was, than terrified I was going to be next. Woke up at 2:30am thinking I must have been asleep forever and surely it was time to rise. Rolled around until 6:30, drifting in and out of the mask wearing horror dream in 10 minute intervals, where I was convinced the villain was a new Freddy Kruger, turned out to be a woman, which was no fun at all. Then laid in bed for an hour until the alarm went off at 7:30, just thinking about the day and all the stuff I want to do. Composed a list in my head.
Now, I'm up, had coffee, did all my morning routine, getting ready to go for a stroll at the cove with a friend. Then maybe breakfast will be on tap. I might even go out for breakfast. I'm reluctant to buy groceries when I'm leaving so soon. Oh and speaking of the trip ... I secured two tickets to the Monday taping of The Hour! Strombo, here I come!
I've also learned that R.E.M. are doing a concert while I'm in town, Sunday night. But I'm not going. I don't think. Mother says she's all ready played out just thinking about this trip ... no, she's not coming with me ;-)
Mood: cheerful
Drinking: coffee, instant, (blech!), black
Listening To: Man on the Moon, R.E.M.
Hair: not being combed until after the morning trek through the forest

Payolas
Can I touch you to see if you're real? Gawd! I loved that song back in the day. I guess I still do. I remember listening to it on a cassette tape, one of those year-end compilation albums of Top 40 hits. I loved those albums.
So, I am beyond busy right there now as the countdown to Frye begins. Found out where I get my press pass when I arrive. Requested early check-in. Have not booked just a regular room, but one with some perks (it was all they had left) . . . not cheap, by any stretch of the imagination but this is me throwing financial responsibility to the wind and just going for it. Remember Toronto in 2006? Yeah, hopefully the hotel will be the biggest part of my indiscretion and I won't go nuts in restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. Because I only have a month to turn it all around in time for my trip to Toronto in June. Though this T-dot excursion will be more tame with many less swanky breakfasts and $15 martinis.
When all is said and done I'll likely find that I could have gone to the writers' workshop in Ireland or France for the amount I'll spend on these outings. I'll take a serious look at this in hindsight and if it turns out to be that way, then you'll see me crossing the pond in 2010 . . . 2009 will likely be a year of financial recovery, much in the way that 2007 was :-) And that's okay.
Maybe I'll win Eagles tickets and at least be able to avoid that expense this summer. Though now, I'm not sure I want to go to the concert. I'm up in the air. Because there is the family reunion happening that same weekend. And really Sam is the only major draw for me and he'll be on first and off like a dirty shirt and there I'll be . . . luckily with those big outdoor concerts there's no need to decide anything beforehand. I can decide that morning that I want to go and there'll be plenty of tickets. But if I won tickets, well that would be another thing all together, wouldn't it?
And now I've got a couple dozen candidates to sort through.
Mood: I know, I hate people, but I love gatherings, isn't that ironic?
Drinking: coffee
Listening To: catch me when i fall, ashlee simpson
Hair: settling into the new colour

I am a Passenger
Watched a good documentary last night about the birth and evolution of punk rock. I was born just a bit too late, so I didn't get into Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols, The Clash or even The Ramones until way after the fact. I'm trying to think of who put me onto them but I don't know, I think I just discovered them on my own. The only boyfriend who would have leaned that way at all would have been K and he was more Zeppelin and Hendrix, Supertramp and Bowie. MB had a copy of the movie Sid & Nancy but it seemed like she knew somebody who had been in it or something, not that she was a big Sid Vicious fan. Anyway, it was a good documentary. Dad didn't appreciate it! :-) But I found it interesting.
So I spent the weekend upriver. Went to a friends place Friday night, where I drank WAY too much wine . . . like WAY. I can't remember the last time I drank that much. It's been a long time. And it'll be a long time before I do it again. A glass or two is freaking plenty. I felt a little shaky all day Saturday. Had a good time though, well other than having to call 911 in the wee hours and having the ambulance come. But even that was a bit of an adventure, certainly another story to add our collection. But you know the party is over when the 911 call goes out. Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt. So now we can look back on it and laugh.
Saturday I just lazed around all day, nursing a hang-over. Watched movies with Dad. I actually got him to sit through Clerks II. He thought it was the stupidest movie ever, but he didn't get up and leave and he laughed quite a bit, so . . . there you go. We also watched White Oleander. Dad taped that one off PVR and I had never seen it, though I read the book. It wasn't bad.
Sunday was Nick's bath day. It went okay. He did not want to get into the tub, but he stayed there once I picked him up and put him in. He whined and trembled the whole time, but afterward he felt great, crazy frisky, and he certainly smelled better. Mom's gonna try to clip him more now and in about 6 weeks time or so I'll bath him again. The beast just has so much freaking hair. Next time I'll try to do it outside. He can't come live with me, so it's important to keep him in Mom's good graces . . . she sometimes threatens to put him to sleep :-(
So it was a pretty good weekend overall. Time to settle in and get back to work now.

Eagles
My eagles have come back! Two of them, on the river ice, flying past my window, all afternoon. Glorious! The ducks are also back. I feel somewhat sad for them huddled on the ice waiting for the water to come.
They announced the Magnetic Hill concert for this summer earlier this afternoon. The Eagles will headline, which is no surprise but there were some surprises in the opening acts including John Fogerty. That's pretty awesome! KT Turnstall is also on the bill, I know a couple of her songs but I'm not a big fan or anything, maybe I'll get into her before the time comes. And last, but certainly not least, my boy Sam Roberts! Love, love, love him! I've seen him before and have been dying to see him again. I am so there! Now if only they'd add Matt Mays to the bill or The Trews or something . . . my toes will curl into a permanent knot for the summer!
The concert is the August long weekend, so I guess someone else will have to keep everyone up all night at Preston and Karen's, cuz apparently last year, it was ALL ME! Though I seem to recall several other guilty siblings, cousins, spouses and the like . . .
Mood: cheerful
Drinking: chai

Everybody Knows
It's been a day. I woke up to heavy wet snow, almost ice pellets, type weather, so I called F at Rogers and begged to reschedule my interview. Instead we opted for him to come to my place and film me in front of my bookcase, with my books. This was better than going out. I maybe should've worn a different top . . . I forgot about the mic thing . . . so it's quite possible dear old F got quite the eyeful as we got me plugged in. But maybe it wasn't as terrible as it seemed in the moment. I forgot to say an awful lot of stuff, but I did say some things, so hopefully it'll be enough and be okay, and I won't come off like the inarticulate idiot I felt like as we taped. I never get to see it anyway (even though it'll likely be picked up province-wide) so bygones! I'm not giving it another thought.
We finished just in time for me to get on the hunt for Leonard Cohen tix for Moncton or Fredericton. There were two of us looking . . . And that was a bust. Sold out pretty quickly. But that was okay, because then an email came in from WestJet announcing one of those purchase your tickets today seat sales and I have a friend in Toronto with tickets to Lenny already in hand who has offered to take me with. So I viewed the WestJet seat sale as a sign that I am to go back to the big city and immediately booked a flight. I leave June 5, return June 10. Yay me! I envision a low-stress, no-commitment excursion, none of the tourist stuff, no $15 martinis or $35 breakfasts and most definitely absolutely no excursions into the old Alderwood stomping grounds. Peace, relaxation, Cohen, you know, a zen-like buddist type trip. A spiritual and creative awakening, none of that freaking tension I had last time from the stress of returning to the scene of the crime. Hopefully the weather will be nice.
Somewhere in all this tickets racket I found time to make the lasagna I've been wanting to make. Chicken, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, ricotta cheese . . . It is my first one. It has been kind of an ordeal. A learning experience. I won't get into all the nitty gritty details, suffice it to say that it took all freaking day! Off and on. My NEXT lasagna will kick ass, this one, not so much, lol, but hey, it's edible. Well, I'm eating it, I WILL be eating it for many days to come, I am not in any hurry to feed it to anyone else. Live and learn, they say. And now every pot and knife in my house is dirty, so I have to do dishes all night.
Despite the crazy weather outside, today is the first day of spring and boy! Do I ever feel it! Man! All this crazy spring energy whirling around my brain. I don't care that there's a ton of snow still, I feel springlike. I want to go places and do things and I feel recharged and energized. Maybe it's just all the company this week and all the talk of travel and all the plans I've made already and all the plans I've yet to make . . . I don't know. But I like it.
It's Easter weekend. I'm not going up home. Too much to do. Plus I didn't want to tempt myself by potatoes with gravy, apple crisp, and all that. I shall stay home and work and eat spinach salad and lasagna!

Aww Jeeze!
And just when I think I have averted sudden disaster--my head will not explode but remain attached for another day . . . then I remember I have to go on tv tomorrow morning . . . Oh man! Now I've got all this other stuff to think about. What should I wear? What time do I have to leave? How much make-up do I need so I don't look washed out and super pale? And what the frig should I talk about anyway? Should I print off some notes? I probably won't be able to reference them. And what about my hair? Thank God I never get to see these pieces. I'd be a real wreck.
Leonard tix go on sale tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be back in time. With any luck my excursion will happen pre-snow/ice pellets.
The reason I couldn't open iTunes this morning, I think was because my hard drive was full. I deleted some programs and movies and stuff and got a gig back then iTunes opened fine. I need to clean up pix in the bnm files, i think. i have a crap load of music too, but the pix are backed up on the server anyway, so i don't think i need them anyway. Well, at least the ones that we've already pubbed. And I don't really want to burn all the tunes to disc, that's just so limiting in the randomness factor.

The Day the Music Died
I cannot get iTunes to open. I don't know what's up with that.
This computer is a little slower than the last one. It seems to have lots of RAM. I mean I can play music, open 30+ tabs in Firefox including Facebook and Perez Hilton's site, work on the production or BnM websites in IE, receive and respond to email in Outlook, edit multiple documents in Word, size pics in PhotoShop, chat on both MSN and Skype, download from Limewire, upload to the server with Filezilla, and do a full virus scan, all at the same time. So yeah, I've got RAM or I'd be frozen solid.
This PC is just a little slow, things take more time to open, it takes a lot longer to reboot. Slow yet steady, it seems pretty stable, seldom freezes. And yet today I cannot get iTunes to open. I'll have to reboot and see if that helps the situation. Because I cannot function, cannot work, cannot edit or write or smile or even think straight if there is no music.
I've plugged myself into the mp3 player in the meantime, but I don't particularly enjoy blocking out all other sound. I can't hear the doorbell. I can't hear the phone. I can't hear anything right now, just Billy Joel telling me what I already knew . . . that I may be right, he may be crazy, but it just might be a lunatic I'm looking for. And even worse than me not being able to hear anything beyond Billy is the fact that I cannot hear myself singing with Billy . . . I can't hear myself, but the neighbours . . . well, one can only hope they've all gone out.
And as if all this was not disturbing enough, there is the dance factor. With the music deafening in my ears, it's impossible to sit still. I bob and weave, hips gyrate, arms in the air, close my eyes and before I know it a half hour has gone by and all I've done is danced my way round and round the living room lost in a dream with Def Leppard.
I just cannot work under these conditions! I need to fix iTunes asap!

Everybody's Broken
I am awaiting a sunrise on a cloudy day. I went to bed late and got up early. That's what happens when you're excited about your life. The trick to getting up early is to be excited about the day, you know like when you were a kid and you would get up in the wee hours on Christmas morning. Nothing could keep you in bed then. Yes, we should be THAT excited about life, just everyday general life. I am!
Leonard Cohen is also playing in Moncton I read in this morning's paper. Love Moncton! Would sooner go there maybe, rather than Fredericton. I'm thinking pretty hard on Toronto too. THAT would be freaking awesome on top of awesome! I'm still mulling. Decisions will be made by tomorrow. Toronto is totally doable if I skip Frye Fest this year, save that week's hotel living expenses. The cogs in my brain are spinning as I wrap my head around the possibilities.
Busy week this week. My list runneth over. Am taping a tv program later this week . . . I so dislike being on tv. Radio is fine, but tv . . . sheesh! Thank God I never actually get to see myself because I don't have cable. I'm being told that very soon everything's going high-def digital and my rabbit ears won't work anymore. I'll have to get cable then if I want to keep up with Coronation Street. I'll also have to get a high definition television. I don't know that I'll actually do all that. I may just give it up all together once and for all.

Everywhere
So much to fill you in on!
Yesterday I got the Bon Jovi dvds I ordered. Destination Anywhere is one I've wanted for a long time and have been keeping an eye out for a copy but it hasn't always been available. It's a must-have for any Jon Bon fan! I put it in and it works! I will watch this weekend. The other is Lost Highway - The Concert, which is probably one of their newest ones. If you'll remember, it took me awhile to get into that album with its country sound, but after I played it a number of times I got into in. I also tried this one in the player and it works. My player can be an issue as it's older and not all dvds work in it. So, I'm very excited to watch these over the weekend!
I was also thrilled to get my newsletter from The Playhouse in Fredericton announcing that Leonard Cohen is coming! Oh my God! Leonard! Tickets go on sale next week and I am going. If I can't find anyone to join me, I am going alone. It's Leonard! Surely I will not have this opportunity again in my lifetime. I am so there!
Last night I went to bed around midnight and read until about 12:30 then thankfully drifted right off to sleep. At 1:30 I heard someone come into the building, clump all the way to the top floor and then cross the catwalk above my window. It was two people. In my sleep stupor I cursed the guy upstairs for making so much noise coming home from . . . well, wherever it is he gets off to every night . . . and then as I heard him get up and go to the window upstairs to look out and see who was out there, it dawned on me that he hadn't gone out last night (which is rare and odd in and of itself). This brought me to full alert and I went to my window. Red flashing lights rolled over the yard and I looked out to see a half dozen firemen crossing the parking lot. Holy crap! Are we on fire? Their trucks were parked on the side of the road and they did not bring in any hoses. They went into the other side of the building and stayed there a good long while. Then they left. No sirens at any time, just the lights. I couldn't see anything they were doing. No idea what went on or why they were called. There didn't seem to be any fire . . . anyway, that had me up until after 4 this morning. One can't just go back to sleep when firemen are running all over the yard.
This morning I got a surprise phone call from an artist in Moncton. I've been to a couple of her exhibits and had admired some of her work, when I saw her last summer I mentioned how I loved this particular painting I had seen at an exhibit a few years ago. She said she thought she still had that one, it hadn't sold. The particular exhibit that I loved was a bit dark and disturbing, not everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, she called me this morning because her bookshop is closing and she's selling off as much as she can so she won't have to store it at home. And she wanted to know if I wanted that painting! I do! I so very much do! I have wanted that painting since I first laid eyes on it all those years ago. And now I know it's meant to be mine, because she remembered me and called and asked and I said YES! She's bringing it up on the WFNB weekend. I am so crazy excited about this! I can't even express it!
This afternoon I've got a BnM Production Meeting at the Irish pub in Chatham. I am eating light so I can have wine! I so need to get on the ball though and finish preparing the agenda, etc.
Now you're up to date.

My Hero
Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
I have recently discovered the Foo Fighters. I mean I always kinda sorta knew about them you know, but then I got some of their tunes and now I'm hooked. They're kind of like The Killers, they don't have any bad songs! I'll hear a song I've not heard before and it'll catch my attention because well, it's catchy, and I'll go look to see who it is and 9 times out of 10 it's Foo Fighters. Love them!
So I've been up since 4:45 this morning. Couldn't sleep very well, restless. Stayed up to watch the first episode of The Hour from London, England. Then watched about half of Arrested Development before clicking the tv off. Tossed and turned mostly until I finally got up. Company coming this morning. Yes, I have a new friend. Yes, he is a man. So, I think I've hit the highway heading west in a convertible with the top down, wind whipping my hair.

Under My Skin
I've got you under my skin
I've got you deep in the heart of me
You're so deep in my heart, that you're really a part of me
And I've got you under my skin
I've tried so not to give in
You know I've said to myself this affair ain't gonna go so well
So why should I try to resist, when baby will I know so well
That I've got you under my skin
I'd sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of having you near
In spite of a warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats in my ear
Don't you know you fool, you never can win
Use your mentality, step up to reality
But each time I do, just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
'Cause I've got you under my skin
I'd sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of having you near
In spite of the warning voice
That comes in the night and repeats how it yells in these ears
Don't you know you fool
No chance to win
Why not use your mentality
Wake up, step up to reality
But each time I do just the thought of you
Makes me stop just before i begin
Because I've got you, you're under my skin
And I love you, under my skin
Do I love Sinatra as much as Michael Buble? Probably not, but I think I might love Michael Buble doing Sinatra just as much.
I've made a mess in the kitchen! Chocolate, strawberries . . . it's not as easy as it looked in my head . . . that's all I'm saying. Freaking rain is trying to ruin my parade. I didn't really want to get soaked. I might have to postpone the planned run around for one more day. I am seeing sunshine in the forecast later this week. Maybe even tomorrow. I know I should just throw on a hat and go now . . . I know I should. Argh! Weather!

Sway
When marimba rhythms start to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close, sway me more
Like a flower bending in the breeze
Bend with me, sway with ease
When we dance you have a way with me
Stay with me, sway with me
Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
When we sway I go weak
I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
When we sway I go weak
I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
You know how

My God I love Michael Buble in the morning! Gets me dancing, every time!
So I just had a visit from some gals from the Kingdom Hall down the road. They left me some books. I feel bad for them. I probably should not have taken their books without giving them some money. You know, they have to pay for those books out of pocket. I used to work with a guy who spent every last extra cent buying books to give away, to spread the message. We're kind of in the same business, me and that church, publishing. Anyway, now they know where I live . . . I could probably do with some good honest Christian fellowship in my life, but the idea of preaching totally turns me off. I wonder where the Jehovah Witness stand on the big issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc. I know they're strictly Old Testament. But other than that, I know very little.
Okay, moving on. I went grocery shopping last night and bought many wonderful things! Spinach by the bucket! Lots of leafy greens. I came home and cleaned out the fridge of some expired condiments. Filled it up with the good stuff. Today I'm looking forward to trying the spinach/strawberry/almond salad with a couple of chicken wings.
I think I'm going to attempt to put together my book shelves today. Yeah. That could be interesting. If you'll remember it took me 6 hours to put together my Christmas tree. I am not practiced at assembly. I've never had to do any of that stuff before. I tried to entice JC to take it on as a project the other night. And while he did appear to ponder the prospect, inquired about what tools were needed etc. I'm not expecting him to show up with a hammer any time soon, lol. So, I'm going to take the plunge and put these freaking shelves together on my own! I can do this! Yes, they are crazy heavy, but no matter! I am woman with a hammer! I can do anything! And finally my books will leave their boxes and come join me in this home I love.

Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
You know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
My God I love Michael Buble in the morning!

This is the Sound
I am loving the Foo Fighters. Big time. It's like I put on the iTunes random shuffle and I go off to do dishes or whatever and then I'll hear this song I don't recognize but totally love so I look to see who it is and it's Foo Fighters, every freaking time! I just got a bunch of their stuff the other day.
Today I want to decorate for Christmas. I never wanted to decorate in Sackville. I never even wanted to hang pictures. I only did it (and after I'd already been there a year) because other people seemed to think it was odd to have bare walls. But here I'm all about the Christmas! I want lights! And a tree!
I peppered a steak with numerous spices and put it in the over to slow-cook for supper. The smell!! Oh my God! It's fabulous. It begs for some pasta and marinara, a nice glass of wine. I have the pasta part anyway. Maybe I can make something happen.
Mood: pretty good
Drinking: water
Listening To: i don't feel like dancing (remix), scissor sisters
Hair: still short 'n sassy

Wicked Come Winter
It's 7am on the Mighty Miramichi and I've been up for hours already. Big day. Have to get ready to leave Dodge for the weekend. Going to Freddy to see a tall dark haired lanky boy who will sing to me. I'm almost excited by that description. F-U-N! But lots to do before I get that far. LOTS!
Meeting a friend this morning for breakfast. That should be fun. Haven't seen each other in awhile, lots to catch up on.
I have discovered some hearing loss in my right ear. I can tell using the ear buds on my mp3 player. It's weird. I totally think I never recovered from Nazareth a couple years ago. I think that's when it happened. Damn! I mean for Jon Bon I'd sacrifice hearing, for The Rolling Stones, even Foreigner a few years back . . . but Nazareth? I wasn't even supposed to be at that concert :-( It was a fluke. And now I have hearing loss. Oh well, the price one pays I suppose.
Last evening I went out of the house and off down the road for a walk. I've been meaning to do this every morning and night since I got my pedometer (cuz as I've previously explained, getting 10,000 steps without going outside is pretty damn difficult) but as always life gets in the way. Not so yesterday. I plugged in my portable sounds and took off on the Old King George Highway toward French Fort Cove. It was nearly dark, very windy, had just rained and was threatening to rain again. I didn't do a loop around the cove because it was too dark and scary by the time I got there, so I just turned and came back. The great thing about the tunes was that I didn't want to stop. I could have kept going all night. When I got back to my building I slowed for a second, then shot right past, opting to do another lap around the block. Why not? I was out and feeling good. Even with a good 40 minute aerobic walk I was short on my 10,000 steps yesterday. It's hard! I cannot stress that enough. You really need to make an effort. And this week has been challenging in the effort department with migraines and what not.
Tonight, I'm looking forward to the treadmill at Mom's. With my walk out to breakfast this morning and access to a treadmill tonight, I should be laughing at 10,000 steps.
My left earbud doesn't seem to want to stay in my ear, doesn't seem to fit properly or something. The right one is fine, just the left I'm having probs with. Of course the left is also the one I have the best hearing in, so it's kinda crucial to the whole music experience. Maybe I need to buy a different set? I dunno.
Anyway, that's my 20 minutes of rambling for today. I'm off to make stuff happen!

The Last Night
In the words of Bon Jovi:
I be yearning. I be yearning LOTS! Not today necessarily, but off and on throughout the months, mostly on, sometimes off. But what I need to do is stop yearning and get down to serious business. I can't even define what it is I yearn for, I just know I yearn. Gotta name it to claim it says . . . Dr. Phil? I need to do the mighty complex exercise my sister posted on her blog. Get to the root of this yearning and do something about it. Because right now I'm all over the place . . . boys, words, money, adventure, fitness, health, travel, family, etc. etc. I've no idea what I want. It's something we don't spend a lot of time thinking about. What do I want? Most of the time we just go along dealing with whatever happens. And frankly, it can be pretty scary to honestly sit down and identify what it is you want in all areas of your life. So we trudge along complacently accepting where we're at . . . I don't want to be that person, a person who just accepts their fate and never steps outside the box, who never breaks through the terror barrier.
I need my Simple Abundance book! Who's got it? And the other one too, Something More. Are they packed in my boxes of books awaiting a bookshelf? I think not . . . they're on loan someplace. I'm calling my mother. She'll know.
Yesterday I got so much done! But not the lamp. I tried really hard to hang this vintage 70s ceramic lamp I've been hauling around in a box for years now, but all I did was tear my ceiling to pieces. I need better hooks and help I think. I'm calling my mother! She'll help.
My mother's camping :-( I'll call her later.
So yesterday was a really good day. I mean a REALLY good day! And I totally know it's because I turned on the music. You just can't sing and dance to your favourite tunes and have anything but a good day. I think that's why I've been depressed this past while. I forgot to take any tunes to Barnbonia. I would listen to the Galaxy Rock Alternative station where I'd get the occasional Killers tune and lots of Marilyn Manson's Heart Shaped Glasses, but it just wasn't the same as having at the tip of my fingers, one click away, all my Jon Bon and all the Killers and the Scissor Sisters and Matt Mays and the Sex Pistols and the Black Eyed Peas and and and . . . you know, all the stuff that makes me happy, and making my own playlists on itunes. I function better with the music on. I know this. Silly to have forgotten to pack some tunes. Oh well, bygones, I'm back and it's on and all is well in my world again, my energy's on the rise.
I'm craving fish 'n chips. Suddenly. It just struck me. I will resist.
